The wide spectrum of black berries with notes of candied orange and clove pull you into this rich and fleshy Beaune 1er Cru. However, there's a firm tannic core beneath all this and the powdery tannins at the long finish provide clear contours. Slight salinity there. From organically grown grapes. Drink or hold.

This aromatic red evokes sandalwood, juniper, tomato leaf, incense and ripe cherry and currant flavors. Lithe and linear, with a firm line of acidity and tannins driving the persistent finish. Shows lovely harmony and a gossamer texture. Drink now through 2040.

The 2022 Beaune 1er Cru Clos de la Mousse offers up aromas of dark berries, baking chocolate and spices, followed by a medium to full-bodied, deep and fleshy palate that's chunky and youthfully structured, in keeping with this clay-rich soil that reliably produces seriously age-worthy, albeit less polished, wines.

The 2022 Beaune Clos de la Mousse 1er Cru comes from more clayey soils that obviate hydric stress. Very floral on the nose, I appreciate the purity of fruit: lovely red cherries and crushed strawberries, more Pinoté than the Les Teurons. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins, quite sweet and a little confit-like but with fine structure towards the finish. It just needs a couple of years to absorb the new oak. Very fine.
