WS The Wine Spectator: 92 Points
Ripe and fresh, with sassafras, sweet bay leaf and savory details that lead into a juicy, compact core of cassis and dark plum compote flavors. The modestly toasty finish lets the fruit and savory sides play out, while acidity and tannins underscore everything.
W&S Wine & Spirits: 92 Points
Grown in sedimentary soils, a seabed uplifted to high elevations above Napa Valley, this wine is initially a little reductive, with tannins that bring to mind black tea as well as tart cherry skins. The fruit-skin character brings fl oral cherry notes as well as a greenolive saltiness. Those substantial, fruit-driven tannins have staying power, making the wine a gentle giant.
TP Tasting Panel: 92 Points
The addition of small amounts of Merlot, Malbec, and Cab Franc, this mountain-grown red shows tremendous depth of character and a graceful touch. Dusty plum, coffee bean, and earth-laden fig mingle with ripe blackberry and bold tan- nins. The finish of mocha and dried flowers is memorable.
