12 Ha holding in the Camerata valley west of Florence. Sangiovese is produced from south east facing sites planted in a rocky soil of clay and loam. Fermented in cement vats, aged for 6 months and bottled.

The Bettarini family began producing wines in the hills west of Florence in the late 1800’s. The estate covers 80 hectares of farmland of which 22 are planted to vines and farmed organically. Today Oralando and his sister Ilaria run the entire operation. Orlando graduated from the University of Florence enology program in 1995 and ferments the wines with native yeast in 5000-liter glass lined cement tanks. Vineyards from each different soil are fermented individually and the cuvees are blended vintage. In 1972 Orlando’s father Riccardo discovered an Etruscan wine making facility on the farm which pre-dates the Romans by 1000 years. They use traditional varieties for the Chianti (Sangiovese and Canniolo) and strike a balance between a contemporary and traditional style. Piazzano is known in many local osterias and trattorias in Florence, 70% of their production is sold in Italy as great value Chianti and long lived Chianti Riserva.
