Deeply savory and earthy on the nose, with damp soil, old leather, crushed wild herbs and then black cherries that roll onto the rich, indulgent palate, where they meet figs, dark chocolate, wild mint and the delicate licorice perfume of sambuca flower. Thick, looming tannins are lifted by acid through a long finish.

There's an exotic boysenberry note to the fruit in this red, along with flavors of raspberry and kirsch, shaded by eucalyptus and wild rosemary, plus a chalky mineral element. Yet this remains slightly austere, with dense, linear tannins leaving a grip on the finish. Best from 2027 through 2043.
