A stunning Chateauneuf with stacks of ripe blackberry fruit, generous body and concentrated fine tannins. Together with the pronounced minerality, they give this a stunning velvety texture right through the remarkably long intense finish for the challenging 2021 vintage. From field blend vineyards growing on 50% galet cobblestone soil and 50% sandy soil. Grenache is dominant, followed by syrah, but mourvedre, counoise and vaccarese also play an important role. The classic cuvée here, the 2021 Châteauneuf Du Pape is rock solid, with bright and juicy cherry and berry fruits, medium body, soft, integrated tannins, and classic notes of Provençal garrigue, lavender, and spices. It plays in the elegant, pretty, focused style of the vintage and will keep for 7-8 years. The classic Cuvée is 60% Grenache, 20% Syrah, and the rest Mourvèdre and other permitted varieties, with the elevage mostly in concrete but with 10% in new barrels.
