Founded by Guillermo Eguren, a self-made "bodeguero", coming from a family tradition of vine growers. Today, the fourth generation of the Eguren family, Marcos Eguren, is the winemaker and director of the winery. Sierra Cantabria has come to the forefront of Spanish wineries in the last 15 years. This is from the extreme care that they give to their vineyards, located in the best terrain of Rioja, the savoir-faire of Marcos Eguren, and his price-conscious policies The soil is composed of Clay-lime, the best soil of Rioja. The climate is Continental, with the influence of winds from the Atlantic, but protected from more severe weather by the Sierra Cantabria Mountains. This wine comes from proprietary vineyards located around the towns of San Vicente de la Sonsierra and Laguardia at an altitude of 1,860 ft above sea level. Soils are calcareous clay with gravel. Deep red, with purple fringe. The nose offers up a great array of aromas: mocha, mulberry, walnutty oak, earth, vanillaÿ and currents. In the mouth the tannins are fine and dusty, smooth and supple texture and fine balance. Really great fruit characters of mulberry and cherry with some cola, spice and undergrowth. This is fairly classic rioja with a touch of modern craftsmanship.

This is rather luscious, yet it’s firm and poised with fantastic depth of fruit and structure. Berry and plum with some bark and earth that finishes strongly. So attractive at the end. Drink or hold.
