Merlot

Merlot is a juicy, elegant, and versatile red grape variety that’s grown around the globe, but it’s world famous for its role in the luxurious blends of Bordeaux. While Merlot’s characteristics vary depending on the climate, soil, and winemaking techniques, wines made with the grape are typically dry and can show flavors of red and black fruits, softer tannins, and medium to medium-high body and acidity. A dry red wine made from a widely grown grape originally used in the Bordeaux region of France for blending. Merlot.  Deep and dark like its good friend Cabernet Sauvignon however not quite as tannic or peppery. Unique plum and darker fruits create a plusher softer style of decadent red wine that has been gaining fame in France and California for quite some time.

Founder Herb Becker opened the Wheat Ridge store in 1961, & moved it to the current location in 1974. Herb sold the store to Alan Freis, current owner Jim Shpall's father-in-law, in 1980. In 1994, Freis talked his son-in-law into co-ownership. Since Jim Shpall's entry into the business, Applejack has spread in square footage like an amoeba.
